Hobie Aus team rider Justin Holland wins 2011 Australian National SUP Titles.

Justin Holland, Hobie Aus Stand Up Team rider, won the 2011 Australian Standup Paddleboard Title at Port Macquarie, NSW.
In a solid 6 foot swell that tested Australia’s best, the icy winds and challenging conditions, put the best in Australia to the test.
An action packed 24 heat day saw quality performances by all competitors in the south east swell.

Justin found himself in a tough final against current Australian Longboard champion Jackson Close and young Keahi de Aboitiz and Michael Davies.

“I had a pretty good surf the first heat, but I felt like I had more to come, so I swapped boards from my Hobie 7’11 CM Ultimate to my 8’3 CM Ultimate for the final and it paid off”, said Holland who won with a combined heat total of 15.50 (out of a possible 20).

“I’ve been stand up paddling for two years now, I had a good result in Tahiti in the world Standup tour and now to be crowned Australian champion, I’m looking forward to the rest of the year” said Holland.

Congratulations to all who competed and especially to the two new National champions, Justin Holland and Shakira Westdorp

Hobie bids farewell to Chuck Patterson

Hobie says farewell to Chuck Patterson from its team of renowned water athletes. Chuck joined the Hobie team in 2005 and was an integral member in Hobie’s emergence into the ever-evolving stand up paddleboard market.

Chuck brought with him a long illustrious sports resume and a magnetic personality that will be hard if not impossible to ever replace. We might not miss all the custom boards we had to build for Chuck but we will certainly miss Chuck as one of our most respected Team members. From all of us at Hobie we wish him the best in his new career endeavors.

Cheers Chuck

Surfing the Hobie 12’6 Elite Race

“We did a 14km downwind yesterday both on Hobie boards and Danny was impressed at how easy the 12’6” caught the runs. Ian took some photo’s from the Mooloolaba Rock wall as we came in. He got some great shots of Danny surfing the 12’6” on some overhead waves. We are both really impressed with the Hobie boards.” Sue Sheard
